OTHER FACTS
Glaucus Atlanticus are one of only two species in the family Glaucidae.
The other member of the family Glaucidae is the Glaucus Marginatus, a smaller, shorter version of the Glaucus Atlanticus with more cerata.
The Glaucus Atlanticus is also known as:
- blue dragon
- sea swallow
- sea lizard
- blue ocean slug
Glaucus Atlanticus are marine gastropod mollusks, which means they are soft, 'naked' sea snails but don't use a shell unlike most mollusks.
They tend to live between a month and a year which is why they are rarely seen.
The Glaucus Atlanticus were discovered by Johann Forster and his son, Johann, in 1777.
